Site seeing around Guatemala City is not complete without a trip to the Catedral Metropolitano located in the Old City on 8 Calle and 7 Avenida.

The Catedral was built in the mid-18th century and reflects the Colonial CatedralMetropolianoSpanish style. Within Guatemala City it is one of the most recognizable sites and dominates the Plaza Mayor in the Old City, where it is located.

The inside of the Catedral is amazing, and tours are free and open to the public, so it is definitely worth the visit. The ornate church and its many idols are a major attraction for history and religious buffs.

The Catedral is open for tours from 8 am – 12 pm for tours, and again from 3 pm – 6 pm.

There are a lot of interesting sites to see around the Plaza, so take a morning or an afternoon and do some exploring. It is even fun to just sit and people watch; you never know what you might see!
